BitTorrent is fine if you're the only person on the network while
you're downloading. Otherwise, it's a major PITA.

It sucks when you're not allowed to download whatever it is
that you want to download but imagine everyone else's frustration when
you do download something while they're also online and trying to do
whatever it is that they want to do. It's you versus everyone else.
Things like browsing web pages take forever, video calls become
choppy, typing commands on a ssh session are slow as hell, etc.

Files downloaded over BitTorrent tend to be huge and thus takes a long
time to finish. With very slow connections being common where we live,
it's a good idea to not download during the morning or when
people are trying to get their things done. The connection during peak
hours is already slow, don't make it slower by downloading during
those times. Scheduling your downloads during off-peak hours is the
best way to do it IMHO since it will be faster and will cause the
least amount of pain for other users.
